When it comes to eyelash extensions, maintenance is very important. It is your Lash Artist’s job to maintain your lashes at each fill appointment but that is only half of the battle. It is equally important for you to maintain your lashes in between fills with a daily cleansing routine.
Yes, your eyelashes need to be cleaned on a daily basis.
This is a topic that is often overlooked so if you have never been told to clean your eyelashes, I am here to shed some light on the subject and hopefully convince you to start doing so.
Keeping your eyelashes clean is crucial for two main reasons: retention and lash health.
First, let’s talk about retention. I think it is safe to say that everybody wants their eyelash extensions to last as long as possible. If your lashes aren’t clean then they aren’t going to last and this is mainly due to oil. Oil is the main culprit for breaking down eyelash adhesive. Whether it is oil from skincare products or the oil that your skin is naturally producing, it all works against the eyelash adhesive. This is why it is so important to clean your eyelashes daily. You can control what you are applying to your face as far as skincare products but you can’t necessarily control the amount of oil that your skin is naturally producing
The second reason to keep your eyelashes clean is for the sake of your lash health. If your lashes are dirty then bacteria will start to grow on them which will affect the ability for your eyelashes to grow. The function of eyelashes is to protect the eyeball by catching particles and debris, so when you have eyelash extensions you are going to catch and collect more particles and debris than you normally would which makes it easier for bacteria to grow. Once bacteria starts to grow, it can cause your oil glands along the lash line to get inflamed which will result in
So how do you clean your eyelashes?
Well, it is fairly simple and it only takes a minute or two.
To properly clean your eyelashes you will need a cleanser specifically formulated for your eyelashes, a fluffy brush (such as an eyeshadow brush), and water.
Start by dispensing some cleanser into your hand and mixing with water, use your brush to suds up the mixture. Then with your brush, apply the mixture to your eyelashes and be sure to coat and saturate the entirety of your eyelashes, from the tips all the way down to the lash line. Gently brush along the lash line and down through the tips to work out any build-up that there might be. After your eyelashes have been completely washed, you can rinse with water until there is no soap remaining. Finally, to dry your eyelashes you can pat gently with a towel or
So to sum it all up, clean extensions last longer and cleaning your eyelashes prevents infections. Cleaning your eyelashes is easy and I promise that if you start a daily cleansing routine, you and your Lash Artist will both be happier with your lashes!
